Stars And Their Cars - Heidi Klum, Supermodel

IT'S a savvy piece of marketing that matches up one German supermodel with another.

Perhaps it's a stretch to call the Volkswagen Tiguan a supermodel per se, but it's an apt description in some respects for a mid-sized soft-roader on which the German

car maker is pinning hopes of a global sales bonanza as it rolls out, including its Australian launch in June.

Heidi Klum, on the other hand, is German, a model and by most conventional definitions, quite super. She and her husband, English singer Seal, will be global ambassadors for the hard-to-pronounce Tiguan (go on, try - it's Tee-gwan), with a song from Seal's latest album forming the soundtrack for the advertising campaign.

It's an assignment that's close to Klum's heart, after she spent her childhood in Bergisch Gladbach, a city near Cologne, in a succession of VWs. She rode around with her father in a VW van and still remembers going on holiday in a gold-coloured Beetle convertible.

These days, she has both the hardtop and convertible versions of the New Beetle in her garage, but owing to the growing size of her family - she has three children and wants six - the garage is dominated by a VW T5, a people mover of delivery van proportions.
